Bedwyr Williams’ humorous art installation "Door to the Management Department" does appeal as most of us would see the irony of a hung door on a wall going nowhere - like most complaints.
The North Wales artist/comedian/performer is known for his bizarre mix of stand-up comedy, art, sculpture, posters and photography. At one of his shows, Williams laid down on a camp bed complete with mosquito, playing Welsh music into a mic from his cell phone. One video shows one of his comedy routines "Bard Attitude" where he is dressed as a Celtic bard - complete with robe and long white beard holding a broken harp. He has also been the yellow dinghy king (see the video)!
He mocked his own large feet in the installation entitled "Walk a mile in my shoes," a sculpture consisting of a display case of his own huge feet, all with little written notes attached to them.
One of his sculptures called "Twiggery" depicts a "dead" eco artist, "killed" with an axe (still embedded in his back) whilst he was in the midst of twig arranging. His "action" sculpture is a miniature moving ski-lift with a tiny picture of the artist dangling from the carriage.
"Tyranny of the Meek" is a collection of several snooker tables are joined rather oddly together as the landscape for a model train railway!
On his poster "Vote Bedwyr", he substitutes his image in an Italian elections poster.
Bizarre. Definitely bizarre.
