Celia Smith's Bird Sculpture Series is Made Out of Telephone Wire

Artist Celia Smith has a way of working metal wires in order to create her beautiful bird sculpture series. Seemingly woven with ease, her statues are constructed out of telephone wire that was probably much harder to deal with than Smith makes it look.

Crafting birds out of this mesh mass of metal is an interesting choice as it mimics the substantial bodies of the birds and their lightweight loftiness at the same time. Some of the birds are almost outlines of themselves, silhouetted against a white gallery space, while others are so dense in construction that they look as though they have been carved out of solid metal.

The wispy, wavy lines of telephone wire give this bird sculpture series by Celia Smith a sketched look.
