Bioengineered Spider Silk Hats

This Faux Silk Hat was Developed as a Tech-Infused Alternative

This bioengineered spider silk hat replicates the reliable material in order to offer consumers a unique winter accessory that's promising to be as warm as any wool alternative.

Although incredibly strong, spider silk is notoriously hard to harvest as it requires large numbers of insects to be held in captivity, prompting the development of this bioengineered alternative. The hat in question was made in collaboration between the materials company Bolt Threads and the clothing company Best Made and offers the consumer a stylish cap that's both breathable and warm.

Bolt Threads has been developing this alternative to spider silk for six years, launching its first synthetic garment - a faux silk tie - at SXSW.
