Although it looks somewhat similar to the recent exhibition documenting the evolution of the cell phone, the Binatone Galaxy installation does no such thing for the music-playing machine. Instead, a host of cassette players have been mounted on the white walls of a gallery to display them and their functional potential.
In this case, the Binatone Galaxy installation creates an eerie symphony of sounds. By replacing the content of the audio tapes with microphones, viewers are able to listen to "rhythmic and resonant properties of these once ubiquituous plastic shells," according to the media artist behind the work of art, Stephen Cornford.
