Insect-Inspired Transformer Bikes

Grasshopper Bicycle

‘Grasshopper’ by David Gonçalves is a foldable electric city bike that has won the Merit prize in the 12th International Bicycle Design Competition, Taiwan 2008.

As the name suggests, the design is inspired by the grasshopper bug. And since it is targeted towards urban and city lifestyles, the bike transforms into a trolley for easy portability in places where it’s inconvenient or difficult to cycle.

In addition to charging via regenerative braking, the battery can also be charged by stationary bicycling when the bike is used as an exercise machine at home.
