Bicycle-Built Cycle Sculptures

The 2010 Sydney Art & About Festival Features the ‘Bike Bike'

Eco-monuments to celebrate environmentally-friendly commuting have been erected all over the world, and the Sydney ‘Bike Bike’ is the latest example. Local bicycle co-ops donated 200 two-wheelers to create a larger-than-life sculpture of an old penny farthing.

Exhibited at the 2010 Sydney Art & About Festival, artist Alasdair Nicol’s ‘Bike Bike’ is embellished with renewable-energized lights after dark. The real kicker for this recycling-centered project is that the bicycles will be rideable after the sculpture is taken apart.
