In order to help deal with some of the pollution that overwhelms the city of Lima in Peru, retired naval engineer Jorge Gutierrez designed and developed a big air purifier.
Now situated in Lima’s Jesus Maria district, the air purifier is described like a "super tree." On the sides of the air purifier are billboards, which serve as filters to absorb the city's smog and carbon dioxide, as well inform the public of what it does. Clean air is transported to a protected section of the purifier, providing a space where city-dwellers can go and breathe a bit of clean air. What gets filtered through this purifier in Peru is pretty alarming—captured in plastic bottles is a lot of dirty, dark brown water that you'd otherwise be breathing into your lungs.
