Blanketed Cement Seating

The Bench Medusa is Draped With a Concrete Canvas

Don't let the look of the Bench Medusa deceive you: it bears that name for a very good reason. Although it may appear to be soft and comfortable, it is in fact hard as rock. That is because the metal frame of the Bench Medusa is covered with a concrete canvas, which is a cement-filled nylon fabric, rather than a down blanket.

Created by young Dutch designer Erasmus Scherjon, a recent graduate from the Design Academy Eindhoven, the Bench Medusa is an outdoor two-seated piece of furniture. Quirky and contemporary, it is as if Medusa herself glanced at this bench, petrifying it without losing its textile appearance and tactility. Keep your eyes peeled for more designs using concrete canvas.
