Textured Cafe Interiors

This Beijing Cafe Design Aims to Replicate the Experience of Mountains

This example of Beijing cafe design demonstrates an experimental approach to texture and makes use of a variety of eclectic materials that recall the imagery of its natural surroundings. Situated inside the Beijing Jing Yuan Arts Center, the Ban Shan cafe takes further inspiration from a poem by Su Shi, which states, "why can’t I tell the true shape of Lu Shan? Because I myself am in the mountain."

One of the most notable influences on the design of the Ban Shan Cafe is its proximity to the Fragrant Hills of Beijing, a location chosen in order to have the cafe space itself smell like the hills.

The Ban Shan cafe in Beijing was designed by Robot3 Design, who looked to common materials in order to work around the project's tight budget.
