British Airways Implements Beacon Technologies in Heathrow Airport

British Airways has introduced Beacon technology in two terminals of London's Heathrow airport as a tentative trial run. It is the first UK airline to implement the groundbreaking technology.

Those with BA's iPhone app will be able to receive push notifications upon their arrival at the airport, updating them on crucial details, such as when their gate opens or when their flight is boarding. In order to make the process move along as quickly and smoothly as possible, customers will immediately receive a customized welcome message, which includes the WiFi password.

British Airways' chief commercial officer Drew Crawley explains that the technology is meant to "add value" to the customer experience, without hounding or bombarding users.
