Imitation Beach Installations

This Beach Setup Uses Technology to Transport People to the Coast

In partnership with Panasonic, the National Trust created the 'Shellsphere,' an interactive beach setup that uses technology to recreate the sights, smells sounds and tastes that can be found by the seaside.

The entire experience is stationed inside a giant seashell, where the atmosphere is set with smells of the ocean like caves, seaweed and salty air, paired with sounds of crashing waves and seagulls. Directly outside the Shellsphere, visitors are able to share what it is they love most about the beach on an interactive Panasonic TV set.

Luckily for those who are unable to make it out to the beach this summer and feel real sand under their toes, the Shellsphere installation will be simulating the experience as it travels across the UK from London's South Bank to the grounds of Belfast's City Hall.
