Quetza

This snake-like bookcase leans against a wall with spaces in each step for books. The bookcase can also be leaned against a table or a chair. The design was inspired by the Aztec sky and creator god Quetzalcoatl who is sometimes referred to as the Feathered Serpent.

The descent of the serpent slithering down the steps of a staircase was a feature of pre-Hispanic architecture. Also available are shorter lengths of the bookcase which are free-standing and horizontal.

The designers, Ricardo Casas, Héctor Esrawe, Emiliano Godoy and Cecilia León de la Barra belong to a collective of Mexican experimental designers called NEL.
