Floating Worlds

The AZ Island Megaship (Flashback)

Alstom Marine and architect Jean-Philippe Zoppini announced an amazing futuristic project called AZ Island. The project is to build a high-tech, artificial island capable of movement. It will be 400 meters long by 300 meters wide, with 29 floors, an area equivalent to 4 football fields and will welcome up to 10,000 passengers. The ovoid island's shape and size will limit its speed, and because the island will be too large to berth, a boat or helicopter will be needed to access the cabins: a landing pad and marina have been planned. AZ Island will be able to withstand 20-meter-high waves and hurricanes.

The kicker is that the project dates back to 2002. Interestingly, it is circulating around the blogosphere this week.
