Augmented Reality 3d Avatars

Appshaker’s Liveavatar Wows Comiccon in London

Augmented reality has developed at an astounding rate and now a new application of the technology has been demonstrated by Appshaker at ComicCon in London.

Using the system, an actor can control and manipulate a 3D character in real time in an environment, built and rendered in Unity with real physical interaction using systems such as Kinect.

In the demonstration video, we see 3D alien avatar S.E.A.N interact with Indiana Jones, The Stig and Darth Maul.

Implications - LiveAvatar augmented reality will change the way that advertisers can promote products and services by allowing the audience to engage with a character in real time. This could be a brand mascot or character from a film with applications such as having a light sabre duel with Darth Vader or talking to Tony the Tiger to create an immersive experience for the consumer.
