Playground-Inspired Architecture

Salzburg's Lanserhofwiese is Colorfully Playful

The Lanserhofwiese (try saying that three times fast) in Salzburg by Wimmer Zaic Architects is a refreshing cure to high density urban housing. The building’s design is more playful than the playground sitting beside it.

The architects used simple materials, including plaster and aluminum, and let the bold paint job do the talking. The complex is meant to interact with the city around it, according to the architects. That could be taken in the highly intellectual way it was probably meant, or it could be taken as an invitation passersby to experience a sophisticated moment of childhood euphoria (kind of like how you used to feel about your treehouse).
