The Aquaponics Garden Feeds Fish Excretion to Herbs for Nutrients

Taking care of plants can be as hard as looking after pets, but the Aquaponics Garden hits two birds with one stone. The Aquaponics Garden is a fish tank and planter in one, giving people more incentive to care for their plants as they would their fish. Interestingly enough, this unique setup eliminates some crucial steps that people often forget: watering plants and cleaning the tank.

Designed by Nikhil Arora and Alejandro Velez of Back to the Roots, the Aquaponics Garden is quite self-sustaining. The fish excretion is pumped up to the plant, providing it with some essential nutrients. While one of their first designs turned human waste into edible mushrooms, the Aquaponics Garden focuses on another species' discards.
