The Appoline Citizen K Editorial is Inspired by 'Ugly Betty'

There is beauty in everything, which the Appoline Citizen K editorial shows perfectly. It goes for a purposefully geeky style that is endearingly awkward. Nevertheless, it does bounce between outright nerdy and experimentally hipster. The first is achieved through thick, magnifying eyeglasses and braces while the second comes about through a confident attitude and easy smile.

Shot by fashion photographer Isabelle Chapuis for the magazine's winter 2012 issue, the Appoline Citizen K editorial was inspired by television show 'Ugly Betty.' Stylist Jerome André channeled this unlikely style guru through a kitschy wardrobe of vintage silhouettes, bold patterns and vibrant colors. Hairstylist Javier Palacio created the plastered, side-parted bangs while makeup artist William Bartel rounded off the geek chic look with red eyeshadow, as though implying she has spent all night studying.
