The latest in solar power technology is currently blooming in a Southern Spain desert: the AORA Tulip System. A gigantic 115-foot high flower tower, it harnesses the sun's energy to produce electricity for a nearby village.
Basically, the bulb of the system heats up to over 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit due to the concentrated sun rays. The resulting hot air is forced into a combustion chamber where it expands to power a turbine generator. An incredibly eco-friendly creation, it eliminates the need for oil, salt or water.
Currently, the AORA Tulip System in Spain is able to supply enough power for 35 homes. Although only two test plants exist right now, the system could expand to other communities in need of alternative forms of energy if they receive more funding.
