Rhino-Saving Drones

These Anti-Poaching Drones Will Identify Poachers in African National Parks

AREND (Aircraft for Rhino and Environmental Defense) is an anti-poaching drone project set up by an international team of students with the objective of combating poaching of rhino and other endangered animals in Africa's national parks. The drones will patrol national parks from the air and detect illegal poachers.

The anti-poaching drones' development is being backed by Wildlife Protection Solutions, an international non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of endangered species.

The AREND drone will be capable of performing autonomous search missions in complete silence and capturing high-quality images before returning safely to a landing area. Eventually, entire squadrons of drones can be deployed to identify poachers and alert authorities to their presence. It will be able to distinguish between people, animals, trees and other objects.
