Alienation is a peculiar, haunting and thought-provoking series of portraits, put together by Cape Town, South Africa-based photographer Anelia Loubser, that completely warps the perception of the human face by flipping it upside down. This manipulation has the chilling effect of making the humans look like extra-terrestrial creatures.
In the peculiar parallel universe forged together by Anelia Loubser for the Alienation photo series, facial features take on whole new functions, appearances and meanings. Eyebrows are converted into patches of whiskers, forehead wrinkles manifest as wry or evil smiles whlie facial scars appear to be disconnected noses.
Loubser didn't put together the series to scare people however, but rather wanted her audience to "be introduced to the alienated being inside us all, where disconcerting beauty emerges. the work is on the one hand strangely aesthetic, on the other hand mysteriously eerie."
