AnanaShine is a new toothpaste developed by researchers at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia that’s made entirely from pineapple. Made with kids in mind, AnanaShine is fluoride-free and safe for little ones to swallow.
"The pineapple is rich in bromelain, an enzyme that helps break down plaque and protein residue while being gentle on tooth enamel. It’s also packed with antioxidants and malic acid, which naturally brighten teeth," explained Associate Professor Dr. Rosnani Hasham@Hisam, Director of the Institute of Bioproduct Development at UTM. To make the brushing experience more comfortable and keep the mouth hydrated, the innovative toothpaste also contains sorbitol and glycerine.
Oral health benefits aside, AnanaShine makes the most of every part of the fruit, crown to flesh, to reduce food waste and support pineapple farmers.
