Amphibious Three-Wheelers

The Salamander is Designed To Give Mobility to Flood-Stricken People

The Salamander is an amphibious three-wheeler, developed by Filipino startup H2O Technologies, that is designed to provide mobility and transportation solutions for people stricken by floods.

The vehicle comes in both gas/hydrogen and fully electric versions. The former, called the HydrOPlus, has a 200-cc engine that runs on regular gasoline. It also has a fuel blending system that lets it run on a combination of gas and hydrogen. Meanwhile the electric model is driven by a 3,000 Watt 48-volt motor that is powered by four batteries. The gas/electric HydrOPlus can hit a top speed of 80 km/h on land, while the electric is a bit slower.

The Salamander has a double-layered hull that lets the vehicle stay afloat and stabilized. Water propulsion is achieved via a rear-mounted marine-grade propeller run by the same motor that turns the wheels on land.

Given that the Philippines is home to several villages and townships located in flood-prone areas, there's certainly a market out there for an easy-to-use amphibious three-wheeler.
