Design label EWE Studio delivers its second collection entitled the 'Alquimia.' The series made its debut last week in Mexico City at the Zona Maco art fair, displaying jet-black furniture pieces and lighting-resembling lava. The Alquimia collection is a trio of designs, which have all come in contact with fire during the construction process. The element of fire plays a role in transforming all three pieces by changing the characteristics of the materials used, which are wood, steel, and blown glass.
The largest piece from the Alquimia collection is the Humo dining table, with a length of 2.6 meters and a off-center foundation. Steel was oiled and burned to craft the table's support and placed into a counterweight made from Mexican Orizaba black marble. White oak is burned and blackened by blowtorch to give both the Humo table and the three-legged Ceniza chair its color and texture. The magma lighting resembles volcano rocks, crafted from blown glass, and can be displayed on the wall, floor, ceiling, or in clusters.
