'Alpha Beat Cancer' is a delightful point and click game designed to teach young kids about cancer. Developed by Mukutu Games and Beaba -- a non-profit group dedicated to demystifying cancer -- the goal of the game is to inform kids about cancer without being overly pessimistic and still treating them as equals. While developing the game, Mukutu included cancer survivors and doctors to accurately process information and get proper treatment facts. The result led to a wonderful game that took honors at the Indie Prize Awards at the Casual Connect USA 2018 game event.
The game is currently only available in Portuguese, but Mukutu games is looking to fund and English version of Alpha Beat Cancer. While this is not the first game of its type, it is perhaps the most entertaining and the best focused on children. The gameplay uses two primary focuses, the first being on compassion and the second being in treatment. Alpha Beat Cancer is a particularly interesting game simply because of its approach on cancer to children. The game uses cute imagery, but it underlined with a sense of seriousness that both demystifies cancer, while showing the process of survival.
