Wireless Airbag Jackets

This Airbag Jacket Wirelessly Inflates From a Motorbike Control System

Italy-based motorbike manufacturer Ducati has teamed up motorcycle clothing company Dainese to incorporate a wirelessly inflatable airbag jacket system in the Ducati Multistrada 1200 sports tourer motorbike.

Dainese has been experimenting with different rider-mounted airbags for many years. Its D-Air Race system pops out of the rider's collar to protect the neck, shoulders and collarbones, while the D-Air Street is a larger bag that protects the rider's torso, front and back, but this new system looks to be the best yet.

In the event of an accident, the bike's control system automatically inflates the airbag jackets. The system is activated in slide or crash situations, using data from a bike-mounted control box to decide when it's time to inflate the airbag. This is clearly far superior to other systems that require the rider to be separated from the bike and pull a release cord to activate.

The jackets inflate in only 45 milliseconds to provide excellent core body protection in most crash situations.
