Air Raid Video Game Sells for $33,400 at Auction

One of three known copies of the Air Raid video game recently sold for more than $33,400 at auction. Known to be one of the rarest games released for the vintage console, it topped the previous record of $31,600 paid in April 2010. According to Wikipedia, a third copy of Air Raid in its original box has now popped up on eBay.

The Air Raid video game is based on an enemy bomb attack on Manhattan. Players are tasked with saving the metropolis as bombs rain down on the skyscrapers. The game has eight game play variations and was originally released in 1982.

While $33,400 is steap, it's not the most expensive video game in the world. That title goes to a rare copy of The Legend of Zelda prototype cartridge that achieved a bid of $55,000 on eBay, although it was not sold.
