Newegg Launched an AI Shopping Mode for Searching in Plain Language

Newegg launched an AI shopping mode that makes it possible for shoppers to describe what they're searching for in plain language and refine their search by swapping out one part for another, adjusting the budget and more without starting over. "Tech shopping involves a lot of reasoning about specs, trade-offs, budget, fit, with what you already own. Our new AI assistant is built to think through all of that the way an experienced tech friend would, surfacing the right options, and staying with you from the first question all the way to checkout, without you ever leaving the conversation," said Jim Tseng, VP of Newegg Product Management.

Beyond the storefront conversational AI shopping, the same AI mode lives as an on-page assistant that can be reached from any page on Newegg's website. Going forward, the conversational shopping assistant is planned to integrate directly with Newegg's proprietary build tools, like PC Builder and PC Upgrade.

Trend Themes

  1. Conversational Commerce — Retail experiences are shifting toward natural-language interfaces that preserve context across browsing, comparison and checkout, creating space for more intuitive product discovery.
  2. AI-assisted Configuration — Complex purchases such as PCs, electronics and component bundles gain new value when intelligent assistants can evaluate compatibility, budgets and trade-offs in real time.
  3. Persistent Shopping Companions — On-page AI assistants that follow shoppers across a website introduce a more continuous path from initial research to purchase decisions.

Industry Implications

  1. E-commerce — Online retailers can differentiate through plain-language search and guided decision support that reduce friction in high-consideration purchases.
  2. Consumer Electronics — Spec-heavy product categories benefit from AI systems that translate technical requirements into personalized recommendations for mainstream buyers.
  3. Computer Hardware — PC components, upgrade tools and custom builds become more accessible when compatibility reasoning is embedded directly into the shopping journey.
