Prominent artificial intelligence research institute Mila bands together with two tech firms — 5C and Hypertec — in a substantial collaborative investment in technological infrastructure within Canada, where they will develop LaSalle Campus and Sovereign AI Research Hub.
The project, valued at a quarter of a billion dollars and located in Quebec, is centered on creating a high-performance computing hub designed to provide Canadian researchers and businesses with secure access to advanced processing power necessary for developing artificial intelligence. A key principle of the initiative is "sovereign AI," which emphasizes operating under national regulatory and security standards.
The collaborators also note that the LaSalle Campus and Sovereign AI Research Hub will also incorporate energy-efficient cooling technologies aimed at reducing the significant power consumption typically associated with such computing infrastructure.
