ARRCC Extends Afro-minimalism as a Movement with This Project

ARRCC — a Cape Town-based architecture firm and interior design studio, embarked on a project to build an African safari lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The practice really challenges the concept of a concrete aesthetic by fusing the traditional and the contemporary. As a result, the African safari lodge presents itself with the ethos of culturally inspired safari-style architecture and mixing it with modern-facing sensibilities. This juxtaposition is evident in the smooth concrete walls, the incorporation of "weathered natural surfaces," the frameless windows, and more. The lodge is also marked by a high standard of luxury.

In a way, the duality in the ARRCC's design is a mirrored response to the duality of the world — while "our lifestyles are modern, nature is raw and primal."
