Iris van Herpen's Aeriform Collection Explores Air and Water

Iris van Herpen's latest haute couture collection, entitled Aeriform, is designed to explore the connection between air and water. The pieces in the collection thus reflect the fluid movement of the two phases of matter, delving into how the substances are both alike and different from one another.

Aeriform's runway presentation was a unique experience, not only because of the clothing on display. While the Dutch designer's clothing indeed seemed to ripple and blend aspects of the models' bodies with the material of the fabric, the visual sense wasn't the only one that was stimulated. In kind with the theme of the show, van Herpen scored the runway walk with music played by musicians who were submerged underwater, giving the entire show an ethereal, deep quality.
