This Adjustable Car Seat Can Be Manipulated Using Hand Gestures

Scientists from Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research and Isringhausen GmbH have developed an innovative adjustable car seat that can be moved using simple and intuitive hand gestures. Step aside knobs -- this is the brave new world of car seat adjusting.

Drivers simply press down on a specific spot of the car seat's panel, causing it to power up. Once powered up, the seat's proximity sensors detect changes in the surrounding electrical field as caused by hand movements. So by simply brushing their fingers around the seat covering in different directions, users can adjust their seats.

The scientists hope to commercialize this adjustable car seat technology for use in middle- and high-end cars, and it is set to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
