Syrian artist and filmmaker Abdalla Al Omari reimagined various world leaders as refugees for his moving project The Vulnerability Series. An extended version of the series will be exhibiting beginning June 30th in Hamburg, Germany. It is currently showcasing at Ayyam Gallery in Dubai until July 6, 2017.
The project features large volume oil and mixed media on canvas, plus a short movie. With a goal of celebrating the gift of being vulnerable, Abdalla Al Omari painted portraits of politicians including President of the United States Donald Trump, former US President Barack Obama, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of Syria Bashar al-Assad. The exhibit includes over a dozen such paintings of heads of state.
