Artist Creates 500 Sandtas on the Beach to Educate People on Cultural Issues

Like a cross between Christmas and Easter Island, Indian artist Sudarsan Pattinaik creates 500 Sandtas in an attempt to be placed into the Limca Book of World Records.

Beating his previous record of 100 in 2009, Sudarsan Pattinaik and 30 of his students created 500 Sandtas to help raise awareness to things like AIDS, the environment and other issues affecting his country. Reminiscent of the protruding heads on Easter Island, the sand sculptures of Jolly Old St. Nick feature Santa Claus in his bright red suit. Each person imagines the mythical character differently and the artist doesn't fail to illustrate that in his artwork. Without taking route, Sudarsan Pattinaik depicts the chimney hopping sleigh rider with hundreds of different faces and beards.
