Askew Safety Latches

The 45-Degree Door Catch Reduces Injury and Gradual Wearing

A reinvention of the common padlock clasp may not sound like a groundbreaking enterprise, yet the 45-Degree Door Catch is recognizably an intelligent concept. People have come to accept the standard design and installation of the hinged hasp system, despite its many flaws.

The 2012 Red Dot Design Award entry proposes the tilted positioning of the slotted metal plate so that gravity causes it to hang directly down, 90 degrees different to its typical orientation. The pivoting component of the piece of hardware has been angled at 45 degrees to allow the hasp to take its familiar horizontal place when in use.

With the 45° Door Catch no longer left to swing out beyond the edge of the room's entrance, the object is no longer exposed to damage by bending or propped in prime position to be grazed by people's arms.
