The First 3D-Printed Concrete Houses Will Appear in the Netherlands

3D printing has granted designers the ability to create almost anything, and over the next five years, the city of Eindhoven will proudly house the first ever 3D-printed concrete houses. Known as Project Milestone, the venture is being led by the Eindhoven University of Technology and engineering firm Witteveen+Bos. The current goal of the project is to have five 3D-printed concrete houses, with the first being completed in 2019, that will all be occupied once completed.

The houses themselves were based on erratic blocks in natural landscapes. They will also be built to be high-quality and quite sustainable.

The 3D-printed concrete houses showcase a huge development in the construction industry, thanks to their immensely positive impact on sustainability. The process of 3D printing structures requires less concrete to be used and therefore lowers the CO2 emissions created to manufacture cement.
