Even though the slanted roof of this zero energy house might look unusual, the design offers a new way to think about carbon-neutral homes. Designed by architectural firm Snøhetta, the ZEB Pilot House is part of a collaborative project with Norway's Research Center on Zero Emissions Building.
Intended for single family living, the structure is also "intended for use as a demonstration platform to facilitate learning on building methodology for plus houses with integrated sustainable solutions." The southeast tilted roof is covered in solar panels, which will generate power for the hypothetical inhabitants of the zero energy house. Clean geothermal energy is also generated from wells in the ground. Together, this means the output is 100% carbon-free.
