Contemporary designer Ximon Lee is a recent BA/BFA menswear graduate of Parson School of Design in New York. His graduate collection, entitled "Children of Leningradsky", was inspired by a trip to Russia that he took earlier this year.
With suburban Moscow's street youth and orphans as his inspiration, the designer has created a collection of menswear pieces that rely on the combination of unexpected materials. The Ximon Lee graduate collection mimics the oversized, ill-fitted and layered clothes of Russia's underprivileged youth who often combine found clothing pieces in order to survive the nation's tough winters.
The unexpected texture of synthetic and organic materials spoke to the designer who aimed to recreate this artful effect in his own pieces. The result is an artful range of deconstructed and re-patterned garments that have been made using existing pieces from the Salvation Army along with found materials including trash bags and printed cardboard packages.
