These Architects Transformed a Former WW1 Bunker into a Cozy Retreat

Premica Architects managed to turn a former WW1 Bunker into a cozy mountainside retreat. During WW1, a number of high-alpine fortresses were installed throughout Europe. Now these former bunkers are being given a new purpose in the form of cabins for mountaineers.

The newly designed alpine bivouac is made out of the remains of a former WW1 bunker. The shelter itself sits on a concrete foundation that elevates the cabin off of the ground. Despite the rural location, Premica Architects gave the building a modern exterior that is both functional and cozy. As a result, the architects manages to breathe new life into an abandoned piece of history.

The innovative alpine bivouac demonstrates how architects can put existing military infrastructure to new use.
