Wood Casting by Hilla Shamia Boasts a Metal Base

Wood Casting by Hilla Shamia is a collection of furniture made out of damaged materials. Each piece may look unflawed at first, but upon closer inspection it becomes apparent that the wood used has been burnt around the edges. The Israel-based product designer chose to work with such defected lumber in order to show the beauty in preservation. He writes, "The negative factor of burnt wood is transformed into aesthetic and emotional value.[...] The general, squared form intensifies the artificial feeling, and in the same time keeps the memory of the material."

Combined with cast aluminum, the burnt wood is given another lease on life. Wood Casting by Hilla Shamia maintains the lumber's organic beauty, while giving it more purpose.
