In fact, roughly a billion Chinese share just 100 surnames. Do the math, that averages out to more than 10 million people per surname. But as stated in the title some names are more popular than others with Wang leading the pack, followed closely by: Li (92 million), Zhang (88 million), and a further seven surnames, including Chen, Zhou and Lin, that are held by at least 20 million Chinese.
Apparently Chinese authorities have decided that this situation is a bit confusing.
