Whimsical Recycled Lighting

This Range of Wicker Lamp Shades Turns Trash into a Source of Light

Using trash to create art is nothing new, but using trash to create stunning wicker lamp shades is definitely a new concept -- and it looks stunning.

Conceptualized by designer Alvaro Catalan de Ocon, this range of wicker lamp shades are actually created using old plastic bottles that are then hand woven by artisans in Chile. The 'PET Lamps' project is a collective effort between the designer and the craftspeople that help him turn plastic bottles into light art. The designer and his team have also created a second line -- 'Chimbarongo' -- using the bottles, but this time they implemented traditional crafty techniques from their hometown close to Santiago, Chile.

"The whole city is involved in working with wicker," says Catalan de Ocon.
