Function-Oriented Abodes

The Whitehouse Park Building is Separated According to Task

The Whitehouse Park building in Singapore is separated into three boxed sections, each of which has a specific function. This was done after the architects were faced with the challenge of building the house with such a narrow space allowed, since roads run by on either side of the structure.

According to The Contemporist, "the 3 boxes were, in turn, expressions of clear groupings defined by function: the social spaces, the bedrooms and the support facilities. The screen walls become a function of their role in defining these and guiding movement through the site." Therefore each area has a purpose, which needed to be done considering the limited space available for the building of the house.
