Wesley Stace Recreates Classic Album Covers with Emojis

The multi-talented Wesley Stace redesigns album cover artwork in the likes of SMS communication. The Philadelphia-based musician and writer uses emojis to emulate classic covers.

He was inspired to create the series after he tried to mimic the Velvet Underground's album with the messaging graphics. He made one of his friends guess what album it was and then became inspired to make more so it could be a "fun parlor game."

Since his first emoji creation, he has created 68 more album covers. Some of the albums he pulled inspiration from include Nirvana's iconic Nevermind album cover of a baby swimming in water, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon cover and The Beetles' Abbey Road cover. His recreations are extremely minimal, as he only uses nine emojis on average; however, they are very effective.
