Water on Wheels Brings the Life Liquid to Thirsty Towns

Over 1 billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and either need to make do with dangerously contaminated sources or travel miles and miles to gather unpolluted liquid. The Water on Wheels project may help to bring H2O to families in need through the use of a specialized electric bike.

Fernando Ocana took on the Honda 1+ sponsored endeavor to design a motorcycle that can carry great quantities of water and requires little physical labor for the person fetching it. The frame of the bike has been adapted to the form of three open cubbies which can accommodate 20-Liter jerrycans for 60 Liters all up. The boxes can even be adjusted for other cargo as well. The Water on Wheels e-bike is cheap to make, easy to fix and can be fitted with found materials to dress the wheels and more -- ideal for necessitous villages in central Africa.
