The Water Cups Fountain is a Tribute to Polish Freedom Fighters

The Water Cups Fountain may result in actual product, but the mechanics behind their creation is worthy of being put on display in an art gallery. Inspired by public fountains, it is a free-standing wooden structure outfitted with four large porcelain vessels that slowly pour a clay mixture on top of 16 plaster molds rotating underneath. The result is a unique pattern that hardens over the cups.

Created by Ariane Prin during her residency at DCK (Design Centrum Kielce) in Poland, the Water Cups Fountain was also greatly influenced by the building she created it in. Once an old prison where Polish freedom fighters were tortured by water before being killed, the collection of cups made specifically for DCK are red to symbolise the blood of these victims.
