ASUS' W790 Pro Sapphire Rapids Motherboards Support ECC R-DIMMS

ASUS debuted its 'W790 PRO' next-generation motherboards with support for Intel Sapphire Rapids Xeon processors, the latest series of workstation CPUs from Intel. As these are workstation motherboards designed for professional workloads, the W790 PRO motherboards support up to 56 total CPU cores, which is significantly more than any consumer-focused motherboard.

In addition to this comprehensive CPU core support, the W790 PRO motherboards boast support for ECC R-DIMM memory chips up to 6800MT/s DDR5 in either eight-channel or four-channel configurations. Additionally, the motherboards featured eight RAM slots, as opposed to the traditional two or four on consumer-focused motherboards, meaning the W790 PRO supports up to 128GB of ultra-fast DDR5 RAM.

As the Intel Xeon LGA4677 socket is somewhat of a rarity on the market, ASUS partnered with cooling hardware companies such as Enermax and Noctua to offer air coolers and liquid coolers tailored specifically for the form factor of the W790 PRO motherboard series, meaning businesses and professionals do not need to worry about finding adequate cooling.
