Researchers Created a Caract Treatment with VP1-001 Oxysterol

Researchers successfully tested an alternative cataract treatment based on the VP1-001 oxysterol. In the testing, researchers took a sample of 35 mice with cataracts and applied the treatment to 26 of them. The remaining nine mice were used as frames of reference for the treated mice in order to determine the efficacy of the treatment.

Following the test, the researchers concluded that approximately 61% of the treated eyes showed a measurable improvement in the eyes' ability to focus. The researchers stated that this type of treatment in the testing phase is the first of its kind, and that the fact that the results were positive reflects that this is a measurable step forward in the treatment of cataracts disease. It is important to note, though, that the researchers stated that this treatment may not be as effective at treating certain types of cataracts compared to others.
