The Volkswagen Optism is Inspired by Optical Art

The Volkswagen Optism car concept is inspired by optical illusions. The surface of the vehicle has been crafted in such a way that it looks different from various angles. Although this feature doesn't have any real ties to the improved function of automobiles, the Volkswagen Optism car concept does focus on something that can be considered just as important: visual aesthetics.

Designed by Sangwoo Lee, a student in the Transportation Design program at HBK Braunschweig Germany, the Volkswagen Optism car concept was created for his diploma thesis. Stunningly sculptural, its surface looks like a series of shutters from one side and a set of folded angel wings from another. The white stripped material is continued inside the Volkswagen Optism car concept as well. Overall, the design is low, sleek and sci-fi.
