Stradivarius is far and away the most legendary violin-maker to have ever lived, and though the long-deceased master craftsman has left but a limited paucity of his creations, the ViolinoDigitale project is hoping to increase that number through the use of technology. Headed by music technology researcher Harris Matzardis, the project is using additive manufacturing to print minutely accurate replicas of Stradivarius violins.
ViolinoDigitale has already printed one of Stradivarius' violins, the Sunrise Stradivari. Originally crafted in 1677, is one of only ten inlaid Stradivarius instruments that have survived the ages. It features an elegantly decorated scroll with a similar pattern running down the instruments' sides. it also has a decorative perimeter around the front face of the violin. Sunrise is believed to be the first ever inlaid violin by Stradivarius.
