Viking Seaside Summer House, a shack on the west coast of France in the region of Cotentin, was built under strict regulatory guidelines. The home is a renovation on a small shack that was originally built in the 1950s, and the regional authorities mandated that neither the size nor the shape of the shack could be changed. Nonetheless, FREAK Architecture, the studio behind Viking Seaside Summer House, were able to effect some pleasing design changes.
For one, the renovated shack now has an off-white galvanized steel facade, and two of the building's walls now have massive sliding windows that give the home's resident a wide-spanning vista of the beautiful French coastline.
Viking Seaside Summer House gets its name from the history of its location. In the 9th century, the Viking explorers first landed on France's west coast when entering mainland Europe.
